Earth Week 2014

Here at UAHuntsville, we believe every week is earth week. This website offers a schedule of events that you can look to year round to find out what’s happening on campus and in the Huntsville community! Events like Earth Week, recycling competitions, or city-wide clean-ups help raise awareness of the issues our environment is facing today, and some simple ways we can help. We must get involved with maintaining and keeping up with the current events. We must replenish what we have wasted when it comes to the planet that we live on, after all, she’s the only one we’ve got! “One person can make all the difference in the world. For the first time in recorded human history, we have the fate of the whole planet in our hands.” Please join us in the fight to create a sustainable campus and healthy community to live in, and to strive to make every week earth week!

A bit of history...

The United Nations celebrates Earth Day each year on the spring equinox, which is often 20 March. This is a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969. The United Nations first celebrated Earth Day on the spring equinox in 1971. This was also the first time ever that the United Nations celebrated Earth Day. The first Earth Day on the spring equinox was also in 1970."
